Not Your Average Bucket List
I’ve been asked what a dream hunt for me would be - my bucket list of hunting or fishing trips gets to be extensive. I want to do it all, experience it all, and breathe in the air of every fresh new experience.
The truth is, I don’t travel. Honestly, the most I leave my tri-county area is to go Sturgeon Spearing once a year.
I do long for more experiences. To breathe in different air, to feel a different wind and to see new landscapes. So this is my bucket list of experiences I want.
*Spoiler Alert - you won’t find any tropical locations on this list, I’m a northwoods girl, I don’t need a beach. I live near countless lakes and a half hour drive to Lake Superior. (even though they’re frozen over more often than not)
Views -
Glacier National Park - Have you seen it? Good gravy. It looks like something that was photoshopped together to be the most beautiful place ever. The mountains look like they could be touching Heaven, and the crisp waters look like the purest water on earth. I would love to camp, with Allen (and of course Piper) and explore what the hills are hiding.
Utah - Again, rocks. The orange hue the range gives off is something I can only dream of. I was raised among tall pines and maple trees, so it’s something that I have never seen other than on Instagram, books and TV. I would love to hike through and see all the views God created for us to enjoy.
Alaska - Alaska, why not?! Alaska is like Wisconsin but harder to get to, with more views, bigger mammals, and a lot more and different fish. Alaska hits all the criteria for my list.
Fishing -
Lake of The Woods (the Canadian side, guess I’ll have to get a passport) - I know several people who have gone to Lake of the Woods and come back with more fish than they know what to do with. They make it sound as though it’s just about non-stop action, which sounds like an absolute blast!
Carp Shooting - I love shooting my bow. And when I was a kid I remember my dad and his buddies going up the road and shooting redhorse with their bows, their arrows anchored onto a reel. It would be a blast and a challenge to shoot quickly moving fish, bobbing in out of the water, with a bow!
Hunting -
Montana, Wolf Hunt - Wolf Hunting isn’t legal in Wisconsin, which I can’t even begin to get into on this post, I may do a podcast about it because it is something that has affected me personally. However, if/when it does become legal, I will be one of the first in line getting a tag or applying for a tag. With that being said I would really like to go out to Montana to hunt a wolf, where it is legal plus, I would be helping out in another state with their conservation efforts.
Montana, Mountain Lion Hunt - So for most Mountain Lion Hunts use hounds to tree the cat and chase after the dogs to get a Mountain Lion. I’ve watched countless YouTube videos about it and my adrenaline even starts pumping from my couch for the people who are about to pull the trigger!
Elk Hunt & Moose Hunt - I feel as though this is on every hunter’s bucket list. Being in northern WI, the biggest animals you can harvest are Whitetails and Bear. The level of intensity I imagine for hunting these animals is enough to put anyone in the dirt.
The Ultimate Trip -
The ultimate trip for me would be to go Alligator Hunting with my dad. If you’re never tasted alligator, you’re missing out! My dad and I have talked about going to try to get one of our own for years and years, after we tasted it at a Game Feed. Both being born and raised in Snowbelt Country it would be quite a different hunting environment than what we are used to, but it’s something that would be a memory of a lifetime - the Ultimate Trip.
Like I said,I don’t have any bucket list fancy vacations in mind. I don’t long for beaches, I long for thrill, adventure, and a mental snapshot view that stays with me for the rest of my life.
